The Missouri Gateway Arch is the nation’s tallest monument. The 630-foot tall structure was designed by a Finnish-American architect named Eero Saarinen in 1947 and construction was completed in 1965. The entire project cost $13 million dollars, which translates to about $82 million dollars today. It was officially opened to the public in June 1967.

Cloud Gate

The Cloud Gate, or also known as the Bean, is a stainless steel structure located in Chicago, Illinois. The Cloud Gate sculpture was designed by a British artist named Sir Anish Kapoor and constructed between 2004 and 2006. The project consisted of 168 stainless steel plates welded together to create a bean-shaped structure. The entire sculpture weighs 110 tons and is 33 feet long, 42 feet wide, and 66 feet long.

Empire State Building

How could we forget the Empire State Building? This classic New York structure was designed by William F. Lamb and was built during the Great Depression in 1931. Surprisingly, it only took one year and 45 days to fully complete! The entire building used over 730 tons of aluminum and stainless steel. It held the title as the world’s tallest building for 40 years until the World Trade Center was built in 1971.
