Going to the gun range for the first time is excited. As a creator of steel gong targets, Alliant Metals understands the emotions you feel before, during, and after this experience. However, it’s important to keep in mind safety of yourself and those around you. Before heading off to the range, we have a few tips for those first-time shooters.
Before you even get to the range, you want to be sure you’re prepared. Often times, it’s suggested to wear long sleeve shirts, pants, a brimmed hat, and closed-toe shoes to protect yourself from hot, ejected brass. And don’t forget safety glasses! Always a must when handling any object with a projectile!
A little research online can go a long way. Simple instructions such as keeping your finger off of the trigger when you are not shooting, only pointing the gun at the targets, holding the gun properly, and other seemingly small tips are essential.
One of the first questions you are asked when you walk into a shooting range is if you have eyes and ear protection, and that is must. Ranges will not let you shoot without some kind of ear protection and protective glasses, so be prepared by bringing, buying, or renting them.
The biggest concern for any shooter is safety, and there is no reason to be embarrassed of being a first-time shooter. Often times, the range officer is happy to help you with tips and instructions. People will be happier you explained your inexperience instead of witnessing you possibly do something dangerous.
